About
Wallace

First, I'm flattered that you would be interested enough in me to come to this page at all. Thanks.

My mother and father were both wonderful, loving, people. I've met lots of men with more education, more money, and even more intelligence than my father had, but I've never met a better man than he was--never. I was lucky to have had both of these wonderful people as my parents and my teachers.

I grew up in a small town outside of Birmingham, Alabama. The place is called Clay and it has really changed over the last 55 years. When I was a kid, I was lucky to "work" in my uncle's store. The store had a cast-iron stove and in the afternoon the men of the area would stop in at the store, have a smoke or chew a plug of tobacco, drink a soda or a cup of coffee, and discuss happenings in the community, the state, and the world. Listening to them was sometimes a hoot, but you also heard sage wisdom built on years of living and experience. This was the era of civil-rights and there was a new "police action" brewing over in Asia in a place called Vietnam. John Kennedy became President and lost his live. Martin Luther King Jr. was killed. There was lots for these gents to cuss and discuss and I tried to hear it all. I tried to learn from it all and I became a student of both human nature and the human condition.

I attended the University Of Alabama when the Vietnamese War was in full swing. Bear Bryant was the coach and he became a friend and hero to me. I even had a class or two with Joe Namath, though I'm sure he wouldn't remember me.

I didn't finish at the University. I got married, worked for AT&T Long Lines, Bell Labs, and BellSouth. I graduated from Birmingham-Southern College with a degree in religion--magna-cum-laude and with honors. I've pastored several small Methodist Churches. I did a lot of hours in the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University with a 4.0 GPA. All the time I've continued to work with computers and networking. All the time I've continued as a student of human nature and the human condition.

I am blessed to have 3 good kids who have now presented me with 5 grandchildren. I've been married to my 2nd wife Laura since 1980 and I still count myself lucky to have found her.

I've owned and operated a retail store, and I've been president of my own business for almost 20 years. We belong to 2 large Chambers of Commerce. I've served as president of the Birmingham Software Developers Association for several years. I'm on the directory board for the Viginia College IT program, I'm on the Birmingham Tech Council, yada, yada, yada... I've been a teacher inside the business world, at UAB, and at Virginia College.

So that's all I'll say about myself--more than you wanted to know, but perhaps it will let you know where some of my "stuff" comes from.
