The ITSBITS Software system runs using a Microsoft SQL® server backend over a standard IP network. The .NET® framework will be required on each server and/or user-computer where ITSBITS is used.
For a small office, you can use our 3-seat-license system on a workgroup. The system where the backend is loaded will need a minimum of Windows XP® Professional and each user-computer should be running a minimum of Windows 2000 Professional. In each case, the .NET® framework must be loaded on the computer. On the system where the backend is loaded, you will want to bring up IIS® and load the documentation there, too. Note that for a small installation, you can acutally use the Microsoft MSDE (Microsoft SQL Database Engine) as your backend to save money. The MSDE is a free download from Microsoft and until you grow to require SQL server itself, it can serve you well. For a larger offce, you must pay for additional seat licenses (see the user license) and you will want to bring up a small client/server system. If you do not have a company intranet yet, you will want to load/activate IIS® on the server-machine. You will need Microsoft SQL® server on your ITSBITS server-machine. The documentation set will need to load under your company intranet and the software itself will need to load on the server-machine as well as each of your user-computers.
The database is found on the ITSBITS CD in backup form. To bring up the ITSBITS database, use the SQL management console and create a new database named ITSBITS. Once you have the new ITSBITS database created, do a database restore (with over-write) to actually create the tables in the database. This will also create certain users for the ITSBITS database, but you will want to setup your own UserID and password to use to let the user-computers' software access the database. Then you will need to create a ITSBITS configuration file based on this ID/password combination. We recommend that you use your fastest processor as your server and boost the RAM in the machine to a minium of 1Gb.
